Hello Families! My name is Melissa Zepka and I am very happy to be teaching 1st and 2nd grade this year. I'd like to begin by telling you a bit about myself. I graduated from MCLA with a Liberal Arts Degree in Biology, a certification in Early Childhood and a Master's in Education with a concentration in Reading. I worked in the North Adams Public School district for over 6 years. My first position was a full time substitute teacher in 2nd grade, a teacher's aid for the next 2 years, and then a reading tutor for the last 3 years. My most recent employment was at Child Care of the Berkshires as a Child Development Specialist for 5 years then as a Reading Specialist and Parent Child Home Program home visitor for the remaining 3 years.
We have a great year ahead of us. This will be an exciting year filled with new independence and increasing abilities. I feel that parental involvement is extremely important to be successful in the classroom. Even though there will be not be weekly homework assigned throughout year, you will be given the spelling word list every Monday to study from and any unfinished classwork.
I am so happy to be working at the same school where I received my first nine years of education. I believe in high quality education that goes hand and hand with teaching respect and love for oneself and others. And what better way to get that education but from a Catholic school who believes in just that.
